ABC Family’s The Fosters is my favorite show for teens, but it’s really made for me. Teri Polo from The Fockers and Sheri Saum who I first saw on HBO’s In Treatment are a lesbian couple and mothers of 5 kids: biololgical, adopted and foster. The two of them are sexy and totally together parents. It is the intimacy of their relationship that makes the family and the show work. Not your ordinary soap opera tv show. The five kids are all very real and unique, and you fall in love with them. (OK, I’m a little corny…and deprived of lesbian family life on my favorite screen, tv.)  Themes that have already been covered: the mornng-after pill, skin color, gay marriage and ‘illegal’ immigration. Rosie O’Donnell plays a strict director of a group home where ‘bad girl’/foster daughter Callie goes after running away from home because of her romantic feelings towards her foster brother.  It’s even more complicated than that. Rosie gives tough love.  She has a soft spot for the female-to-male trans guy/gal who is Callie’s roommate. The first season is on Netflix, and the current season is on ABCFamily. It is produced by Jennifer Lopez. Check it out.
